Square Robot, Inc., an industry expert in robotic inspection of industrial storage and energy infrastructure, has completed a Series B funding round and entered into a strategic collaboration with Marathon Petroleum Corporation. This integrated downstream and midstream energy company operates the most extensive refining system in the United States.

As part of the Series B funding round, Marathon Petroleum will participate alongside several other investors. The collaboration also includes technical engagement, with Marathon working alongside Square Robot to help shape the design and development of the company’s next-generation submersible robotic inspection platform.

Engineers deploying a robotic inspection system on industrial energy infrastructure, Robotics Industry Monthly

Square Robot’s submersible robotic inspection systems support safer, non-invasive inspection of industrial storage and energy infrastructure.

In parallel, Marathon will continue deploying Square Robot’s existing fleet of submersible robots to conduct inspections across its nationwide network of terminals and refineries. The robotic systems are designed to perform internal inspections of above-ground storage tanks while keeping assets online, reducing operational disruption, and minimizing safety and environmental risks associated with traditional inspection methods.

“Marathon’s partnership marks a major milestone in our mission to transform industrial tank inspection,” said David Lamont, CEO of Square Robot. “They recognize the proven value of our robotic inspections—eliminating confined space entry, reducing the environmental impact, and delivering major cost efficiencies, all while keeping tanks online and working. We’re excited to work together with such a great company to expand inspection capabilities and accelerate innovation across the industry.”

Square Robot’s submersible robotic platforms are designed to support non-invasive inspection of above-ground storage tanks without draining the assets or requiring confined-space entry. The systems are deployed in energy, petrochemical, and industrial environments where inspection accuracy, safety, and asset availability are critical to operations.
