SiLC Technologies, Inc. (SiLC), a developer of integrated single-chip FMCW LiDAR solutions, today announced the launch of the Eyeonic® Trace, a Class 1 Laser Line Scanner designed for high-precision dimensioning of objects with sub-millimeter depth accuracy from distances of up to 10 meters. The scanner is intended for industrial automation applications, including conveyor belts, bucket elevators, assembly lines, and robotic arms.
Meeting the Need for Precision in Industrial Automation
The demand for autonomous solutions with sub-millimeter precision continues to grow, driven by challenges such as labor shortages caused by a declining working-age population. Technologies with human-like vision offer opportunities to improve dexterity, precision, and coordination in warehouse automation, robotics, farming, construction, and manufacturing.
“What we’re seeing in mobility related to machine vision that is human-like and predictive is following suit in industrial automation, warehouse operations, robotics and manufacturing,” said Dr. Mehdi Asghari, CEO of SiLC Technologies. “The new Eyeonic Trace Laser Line Scanner provides better depth precision than the human eye. Not only does our Eyeonic Trace measure objects with great precision, but the laser is also Class 1 eye safe, which means that factory workers can use it without the constraints of a ‘Keep Out’ area or ‘Special Eye Protection Required’ mandate.”
A Turnkey Machine Vision Solution for Industrial Automation and Robotics
The Eyeonic Trace represents SiLC’s first fully integrated turnkey product, developed to meet the growing demand for ready-to-deploy machine vision solutions in industrial automation and robotics. This marks a shift from SiLC’s earlier focus on providing technology components for integration into customer products. With the Eyeonic Trace, SiLC delivers a complete, out-of-the-box solution that expands its reach to customers lacking in-house product integration capabilities.
At the core of the Eyeonic Trace is SiLC’s Eyeonic Vision Sensor, which integrates multiple photonic functions onto a single silicon photonics chip. These include low-loss waveguides, coherent detection, and semiconductor optical amplifiers, providing advanced functionality in a compact form. Measuring just 200 x 135 x 75 mm, the scanner features a wide 72° field of view, enabling it to measure both large and small objects with precision.
The Eyeonic Trace’s Class 1 low-power laser ensures eye safety, making it suitable for deployment across diverse automation environments without requiring restrictive safety measures. It delivers millimeter-level depth measurement accuracy (1/32 inch) across distances ranging from 10 cm to 10 meters. Additionally, the scanner operates effectively across a wide range of object reflectivity and provides consistent performance even in varying ambient light conditions.
Samples of the Eyeonic Trace will be available in Q2 2025, with full production scheduled for the second half of 2025.
