Rainbow Robotics, founded in 2011 by researchers at the Korea Advanced Institute of Science & Technology’s (KAIST) Humanoid Robot Research Center, gained prominence for developing “Hubo,” Korea’s first two-legged humanoid robot. With this partnership, Samsung will combine its AI and software expertise with Rainbow Robotics’ robotics technology to accelerate the development of advanced humanoid and industrial robots.

A synergy council will be formed to align the strategies of both companies, develop next-generation robot technologies, and identify global market opportunities. This collaboration aims to strengthen their leadership in the global robotics sector while fostering innovation in advanced robotic systems.

Expanding Automation Capabilities

Samsung plans to integrate Rainbow Robotics’ portfolio, including collaborative robots, dual-arm mobile manipulators, and autonomous mobile robots, into its manufacturing and logistics operations. These robots, powered by AI algorithms, will learn and adapt to environmental variables in real-time, improving operational efficiency and versatility. Rainbow Robotics is also set to expand its presence in international markets, leveraging Samsung’s extensive global sales infrastructure.

Future Robotics Office: Pioneering Advanced Robots

In parallel, Samsung has established a Future Robotics Office, reporting directly to the CEO, to spearhead the development of future robotics technologies, including humanoid robots. This office aims to secure a competitive edge in robotics innovations and transform them into a key growth driver.

Dr. Jun-Ho Oh, a founding member of Rainbow Robotics and an honorary professor at KAIST, will serve as an advisor to Samsung and lead the Future Robotics Office. Dr. Oh brings decades of experience in robotics research and industry-academia collaboration, enhancing Samsung’s efforts to develop cutting-edge robotics.
