Founded in January 2015 as a spin-off from the CoRo laboratory at ETS University in Montreal, Canada, RoboDK continues to grow its capabilities and reach. The company now supports over 1,000 robots from 90 manufacturers, offering a platform-agnostic approach to robotics programming that allows end-users to work with multiple robot brands through a single unified tool.

“We are continually working to integrate the rapidly growing number of new robot arms and manufacturers,” added Albert Nubiola, RoboDK’s CEO. “In the past decade, there has been a growing trend towards automation. We are proud to be part of this journey by offering a cost-effective solution that enables automation solutions that were not possible before, making the return on investment of robots more attractive to users.”

Key Innovations in Robotics Simulation

At the core of RoboDK’s offerings is its flagship product, RoboDK for Desktop, which provides advanced features such as multi-robot simulation, path planning, and an extensive API. In addition to its desktop software, RoboDK has introduced innovative tools that enhance usability and precision, including:

  • TwinTool: A cost-effective robot tool calibration solution using off-the-shelf sensors.
  • RoboDK for Web: A cloud-based solution enabling easy online project sharing.
  • TwinTrack: A laser-tracker-based tool for programming industrial robots by hand.
  • TwinBox: A compact system for real-time monitoring and integration of production robots.
  • RoboDK Calibration: A calibration tool offering tenfold accuracy improvements for robot positioning.

These innovations have enabled RoboDK to remain at the forefront of robotic programming, making automation accessible to a wide range of users.

“RoboDK has significantly evolved over the past decade to become a leading software solution in the world of robotic simulation and offline programming,” said Flore Cachera, Marketing Manager. “Our goal from day one has been to democratize robotics and empower industries with innovative and brand-independent tools.”

Focus on Community and Collaboration

RoboDK attributes much of its success to its collaborative culture and customer-driven approach. The company emphasizes hiring global talent, fostering an environment of innovation and trust, and listening closely to customer needs to shape its product roadmap.

“Our product is an achievement in itself,” said Dmitry Lavygin, Software Developer. “RoboDK stands out by supporting a vast number of robots with the ability to simulate, program, and control them—offering unparalleled capabilities in the industry.”

Industry Impact and Partnerships

RoboDK’s software has been adopted across a variety of industries, powering projects from aerospace to automotive manufacturing. Notable collaborations include:

  • NASA: Leveraging RoboDK for advanced robotic machining.
  • Mercedes-Benz: Simulating and optimizing robotic assembly and painting processes.
  • Wilder Systems: Developing the world’s first robotic plane wash using RoboDK’s CAD-to-path strategies.

These partnerships highlight the RoboDK platform’s versatility and unique capabilities to deliver innovative solutions in highly specialized environments.

Samuel Bertrand, RoboDK’s General Manager says, “Our focus is on working with our customers and our community to deliver practical solutions that fit their needs. RoboDK is making robotics a viable option for more people and industries with tools that are affordable and easy to use.”

Looking Ahead: Expanding Capabilities

As RoboDK enters its second decade, the company plans to focus on incorporating artificial intelligence and expanding its CAD/CAM capabilities. The recently launched RoboDK Marketplace invites developers to create and share custom tools, fostering collaboration and innovation within the robotics community.

“We’re excited about empowering our community by allowing users to develop their own add-ons and share them through the RoboDK Library,” said Yann Mack-Veilleux, Software Developer. “This initiative opens the door for users to create tools that address emerging industry challenges.”

RoboDK also aims to enhance automation processes by integrating AI for features such as path optimization, collision avoidance, and predictive maintenance, ensuring its platform remains at the cutting edge of robotics programming.
