Fox Robotics specializes in autonomous forklift systems for pallet movement at warehouse and distribution-center loading docks. Its work focuses on trailer loading and unloading, where robotic vehicles must manage changing pallet arrangements, trailer conditions, dock traffic and operating constraints within active material-handling environments. The company’s autonomous platform is built on a Class 1 electric stand-up forklift and integrates onboard cameras, three-dimensional LiDAR, safety-certified sensors and proprietary perception, planning and navigation software. Together, these systems allow the vehicle to locate pallets, evaluate its surroundings and plan movements between trailers and receiving areas in real time.

Much of the company’s engineering is centered on the variability found at the dock. Pallets may arrive in different orientations, stacking patterns and physical conditions, while trailers may differ in lighting, floor condition and internal layout. The system’s perception models are designed to recognize these variations and adjust fork position, approach and vehicle motion without requiring each trailer or receiving area to be mapped in advance. Live mapping and localization also support operation within changing warehouse spaces, including congested dock areas and trailers the system has not previously encountered. The technology also incorporates the safety architecture required for autonomous industrial vehicles operating alongside warehouse personnel and equipment. Cameras, LiDAR, programmable logic controls, safety relays and redundant braking provide layered monitoring and collision-avoidance functions. Manual control is retained for trained operators when direct intervention is needed, allowing autonomous and conventional forklift operation within the same vehicle platform. This combination supports deployment within existing facilities where people, forklifts and other material-handling systems continue to share the loading-dock environment.

Initially developed for autonomous trailer unloading, the platform has since expanded to support both inbound and outbound pallet movement. Its systems can transfer freight between trailers, receiving floors, conveyors and related warehouse equipment, helping connect loading-dock activity with broader material-handling operations. Data gathered from deployed systems across a range of customer facilities also informs continued development of the perception, machine-learning and planning technologies used by the autonomous fleet. This operating history exposes the systems to different pallet types, load patterns, trailer configurations and warehouse layouts.

Deployment is designed around existing loading-dock operations rather than purpose-built robotic infrastructure. The vehicles use onboard sensing and navigation and can operate without dependence on fixed guidance systems.
